As summer continues and school meal programs remain on pause, food insecurity remains a pressing challenge for many families in the Philadelphia region. With nearly one in three children in Philadelphia experiencing food insecurity, local organizations and community partners are stepping up to help meet the growing demand for emergency food assistance.
ย
On July 22, Self Reliance Financial Federal Credit Union proudly participated in the Philabundance Collaborative Credit Union Food Drive at the Philabundance Hunger Relief Center in South Philadelphia. Representing SRFFCU were CEO Anatoli Murha and members of the marketing team, joining seven fellow credit unions in a shared effort to combat hunger across our community. The event was hosted by TruMark Financial Credit Union as part of its annual collaborative food drive initiative.
ย
Together, the participating credit unions donated an impressive 1,720 pounds of food and contributed $32,050 in support of Philabundance’s mission. Now in its eighth year, the collaborative effort brought together:
- American Heritage Federal Credit Union
- Ardent Federal Credit Union
- Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union
- Freedom Credit Union
- Penn Federal Credit Union
- Tri County Area Federal Credit Union
- TruMark Financial Credit Union
- Self Reliance Financial Federal Credit Union
ย
As the region’s largest hunger-relief organization, Philabundance serves as a vital resource for families, seniors, and children facing food insecurity. In 2025 alone, the organization distributed 44 million pounds of food, providing the equivalent of approximately 37 million meals through a network of more than 350 community partners across Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.
ย
Collaborative initiatives such as TruMark Financial’s annual food drive are especially important during the summer months, when food donations often decline while community need rises. The support provided by local credit unions helps ensure that Philabundance can continue stocking shelves and delivering nutritious food to those who need it most.
ย
At Self Reliance Financial Federal Credit Union, we are proud to support the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.” By participating in community-driven initiatives like the Philabundance Collaborative Food Drive, we remain committed to strengthening the communities we serve and making a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors.
